EMBU, Kenya-Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has sensationally claimed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua orchestrated violence at public gatherings, including church services, in a bid to portray himself as a victim and win public sympathy.
This is despite documented evidence showing police and armed goons targeting his events.
Ruku spoke out following chaotic scenes at a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, where disorder erupted during Gachagua’s visit, forcing police to use teargas and causing congregants to flee.
“This was no accident,” Ruku said.
“Gachagua moves with armed goons who deliberately create disruptions at meetings and church services he attends to attract sympathy and incite anger against the government.”
He pointed to previous incidents, including during the Mbeere North by-election campaigns, saying, “The same pattern was evident when his goons attacked an innocent youth, Fredrick, breaking his leg during a church service at Karangare. These are well-organized schemes designed to manufacture victimhood.”
Ruku warned Kenyans against falling for such tactics, emphasizing that “places of worship should never be turned into arenas for political drama. Intimidation and violence have no place in Kenya’s democratic space.”

On regional politics, the CS declared that the Mt Kenya region remains firmly aligned with the government, noting that Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki “continues to provide strong and effective leadership for the region from within government.”
He further accused Gachagua of political arrogance, saying, “He must respect the Deputy President and recognize the unity between Mt Kenya East, Central, and West. Mt Kenya East has consistently stood with the rest of the region and deserves recognition in national leadership.”
Highlighting historical contributions, Ruku added, “Mt Kenya East played a critical role in the struggle for independence and should not be sidelined. Leaders from the West must support the East, especially now that the Deputy President hails from Mt Kenya East.”
Ruku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to development, stating, “Political propaganda and hostility will not derail our mission. Our focus is delivering services to Kenyans, not being distracted by theatrics.”
Supporting Ruku’s comments, Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene described the Nyeri church incident as a “well-scripted drama” by Gachagua while condemning the use of teargas in a church as disrespectful.
Similarly, Tigania East MP Mpuri Apuri criticized what he termed the “politics of conmanship,” warning Kenyans against being manipulated by selfish political actors.
