NAIROBI, Kenya- Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to hold free and fair nominations, warning the party against handing tickets to favoured aspirants ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a post, Ruth used a train metaphor to criticise what she described as aspirants already holding, or being promised, party tickets.
“Let’s not kill our favourite train, ODM, with free tickets to our favourites,” she wrote, calling on aspirants to “go to the people” and backing “power to the people”.
Ruth also linked her appeal to October’s “Mwezi wa Baba” events honouring her late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying the party should follow his path.
ODM has said it intends to conduct free and fair nominations, while party leader Oburu Oginga has said candidates must win primaries to receive the party ticket.
Ruth is among the politicians seeking the ODM ticket for Kisumu governor in 2027.
In August, she said she would compete in the party primaries and had never asked Raila for a direct ticket.
