ARUSHA, Tanzania — William Ruto arrived in Arusha on Saturday for the 25th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State, a high-level regional meeting focused on integration, trade, and security.
Ruto, who currently serves as chairperson of the regional bloc, is expected to lead discussions aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and deepening regional ties among member states.
“Arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, for the 25th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State to further advance regional integration, strengthen economic cooperation, and deepen the bonds that unite our people across the region,” the president said in a statement shared through his official social media accounts.
The Kenyan leader was accompanied by senior government officials, including Dorcas Oduor, Beatrice Askul, and Caroline Karugu.
The summit, hosted by Samia Suluhu Hassan in Arusha, is expected to bring together leaders from across the East African region.
Among those expected to attend are Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.
Leaders are expected to deliberate on key regional issues, including trade expansion, economic integration, and collective security.
The conflict in eastern DR Congo is also expected to feature prominently during the talks. The EAC has been coordinating diplomatic and security efforts with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
Officials say the summit aims to strengthen cooperation among member states while advancing shared development goals across the region.
