Ruto Leaves For Washington To Witness Signing of Rwanda-DRC Peace Agreemen

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto left Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon for Washington, D.C., where he will join regional leaders for the signing of the landmark DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement — described as the most significant breakthrough in resolving decades of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The ceremony, convened at the invitation of U.S. President Donald J. Trump, will bring together President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC for what is expected to be a turning point in efforts to end long-running instability in the region.

State House said the Washington signing builds on progress from the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, as well as the joint EAC–SADC initiative, and is aimed at unlocking new pathways for disarmament, demobilisation, humanitarian access and long-term stabilisation.

While in the U.S., President Ruto will also participate in a series of high-level engagements focused on strengthening Kenya’s strategic interests in trade, investment, health cooperation and security.

He is further expected to witness the signing of the Kenya–U.S. Health Cooperation Framework, which shifts the 25-year partnership to a sustainable, government-led model designed to advance universal health coverage and build a self-reliant Kenyan health system by 2030.

According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President will also use the trip to outline Kenya’s new economic transformation blueprint, which targets a transition toward a first-world economy through human capital development, agro-industrial expansion, infrastructure growth and large-scale irrigation driven by major dam projects.

Ruto will seek increased Public–Private Partnership (PPP) investment in these sectors, alongside enhanced cooperation on security initiatives that support Kenya’s long-term development goals.
