President Ruto Leads Tributes After Death of Senator Mandago’s Mother

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has led political leaders across the country in mourning the death of Mama Esther Jerotich, the mother of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, who passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.

The Mandago family said Mama Esther died while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Her death has drawn an outpouring of condolences from national and county leaders, reflecting the influence she had beyond her immediate family.

In a condolence message, President Ruto described Mama Esther — fondly known as Gogo Esther — as a woman whose life was defined by grace, kindness and enterprise.

“May God grant comfort and abiding strength to the family and friends of Esther Jerotich Tapsiargai as they endure this deep loss,” the President said.

Ruto noted that Mama Esther’s values and guidance shaped her children, saying she raised them with discipline, integrity and care for others.

“Gogo Esther, the beloved mother of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, will be remembered as a woman of grace, kind in heart and enterprising in spirit,” he added.

The Head of State also drew encouragement from Scripture, quoting Job 5:11 as a source of hope for those mourning her passing, and prayed for peace and strength for the family.

Leaders from across the political divide echoed the President’s message, describing the loss of a mother as deeply painful.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi said Mama Esther’s love and legacy would continue to guide her family even in death.

“Losing a mother leaves an unfilled void, but her love and legacy will be your strength. Gogo Esther embodied kindness, resilience and integrity,” Sudi said in his condolence message to Senator Mandago.

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei also extended his sympathies, praying for comfort and resilience for the bereaved family during the difficult period.

Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei described Mama Esther’s death as a painful loss and assured the family of prayers and support.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Senator Jackson Mandago and his entire family during this painful time,” Shollei said.

Mama Esther’s passing has prompted widespread messages of condolence from leaders, friends and residents of Uasin Gishu, highlighting the respect she commanded and the legacy she leaves behind.

The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in due course.
