NAIROBI, Kenya-In a political shakeup, President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to undergo a name change following a merger with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC).
The merger marks a significant step in Kenya Kwanza’s efforts to consolidate political power ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The newly rebranded party, whose name will be unveiled in the coming weeks, aims to reflect unity and inclusivity within Kenya Kwanza.
Sources indicate that the rebranding will involve not just a new name but a revamped leadership structure to accommodate key figures from ANC.
UDA Chairperson, who is also the Governor of Embu, announced the changes during a televised event at State House, Nairobi.
One of the most controversial changes involves Deputy President Kithure Kindiki being replaced as UDA’s Deputy Party Leader.
Governor Issa Timamy of Lamu County, a prominent figure within ANC, will take over the role as part of the merger agreement.
The decision has sparked debate, with some Kenya Kwanza insiders viewing it as a necessary compromise to cement the coalition’s unity.
Others, however, argue that it sidelines Kindiki, a key figure in UDA’s growth and a loyal ally to President Ruto.
