“Congratulations on your appointment as Assistant Director, Protocol and Events in the Executive Office of the President!” wrote Itumbi, emphasizing the comedian’s dedication to the creative economy.
Chipukeezy’s appointment comes amid a broader cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto, signaling a shift in how the government integrates creatives into key roles.
A Comedian’s Path to Leadership
Rising from the Churchill Show, Chipukeezy became one of Kenya’s most recognizable comedic voices.
His sharp wit and distinct Kamba accent propelled him to fame, unlocking opportunities beyond entertainment.
His deep ties with Ruto’s administration have seen him serve as MC at state events, further cementing his influence in the public sector.
This isn’t Chipukeezy’s first stint in government.
Under President Uhuru Kenyatta, he was appointed to the NACADA board, where he championed anti-drug abuse campaigns among the youth. His new job under Ruto signals continued trust in his leadership capabilities.
From Tala to the Top: The Making of a Star
Born in Tala, Machakos County, Chipukeezy’s journey started in Kwatombe Primary School, followed by Masii and Tala high schools, where his talent in drama flourished.
He later joined local theatre productions, performing set book adaptations for students before securing a role at Heartstrings Theatre.
Determined to succeed, he hustled his way into the East African School of Media Studies, laying the foundation for his career in entertainment and, now, governance.
As Ruto’s government reshuffles key figures, Chipukeezy’s appointment stands out, signaling the administration’s recognition of Kenya’s creative economy in national development.
Whether on stage or in government, one thing remains clear—Chipukeezy knows how to command an audience.
