SIAYA, Kenya- Siaya Deputy Governor Dr. William Oduol has officially announced his intention to contest for the county’s top seat in the 2027 General Election, setting up a potential showdown with incumbent Governor James Orengo.
Dr. Oduol announced while hosting a fellowship with religious leaders from Alego Usonga constituency at his Hawinga village residence.
He confirmed that he will seek the ODM party ticket, signalling that the battle for the county’s leadership will begin at the party nominations.
Speaking about his decision, Dr. Oduol cited the county’s lagging development and unfulfilled promises by the current administration as the driving factors behind his candidacy.
“I am officially declaring my intention to run for Governor of Siaya County on an ODM ticket. I will participate in the party nominations, and I hope Governor Orengo does the same,” he said.

He accused the current government of neglecting the manifesto they presented together in 2022, describing it as largely his vision for the county.
Dr. Oduol pledged that, if elected, he would fully implement the manifesto, including its nine-point agenda aimed at transforming Siaya.
“I gave the current administration the space to deliver on the promises we made to the people of Siaya. Unfortunately, much of that vision has not been realized. I am now stepping forward to ensure that the development blueprint I crafted is fully executed,” he stated.
Dr. Oduol emphasised that effective county leadership requires an administrator, not merely an activist or legislator, highlighting his commitment to development-oriented governance.
He vowed to prioritise health services, food security, and the empowerment of women and youth, among other critical areas.
