NAIROBI, Kenya- Silas Jakakimba, a prominent Kenyan lawyer and former long‑time political adviser, has announced his intention to contest the Suba North parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 general election.
Jakakimba says his campaign will formally kick off in March 2026.
In a statement on X, he said the Silas Jakakimba Secretariat has stood down all public engagements until March 1, 2026, to honour and allow time for mourning following the death of his mentor and long‑time political ally, Raila Odinga.
Jakakimba described the late ODM leader as his father, mentor, and boss for nearly 19 years.
Jakakimba has a well‑established political profile.
He served as a senior aide to Raila Odinga for nearly two decades before breaking away from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In March 2024, he formally joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
His move to UDA was widely seen as a strategic shift in his political career after years of advising Odinga.
Since joining UDA, Jakakimba has openly expressed his intention to challenge the incumbent Millie Odhiambo, who currently holds the Suba North parliamentary seat.
Suba North Constituency, located in Homa Bay County, remains a key political battleground with a voter base of over 60,000 registered voters.
The constituency has traditionally been a stronghold for ODM, with Odhiambo serving multiple terms as its representative.
