KIAMBU, Kenya — Police in Kiambu County have recovered a firearm believed to be linked to a recent theft following a mob attack in Munyu, Thika East.
On Thursday, law enforcement officers responded to reports from local administrators about a confrontation involving an armed individual.
Upon arrival, the officers found the person had sustained fatal injuries in the attack.
At the scene, police recovered a G3 rifle, two loaded magazines with 68 rounds of ammunition, additional blank rounds, a penknife, and other items.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed on Friday that the recovered firearm is connected to a previous case involving the loss of police arms in the same sub-county.
The firearm and ammunition have been secured for forensic and ballistic analysis as investigations continue.
“The NPS appeals to the public to refrain from acts of mob justice. Suspected criminal activities should be reported to law enforcement authorities for lawful action,” the service urged.

The recovery comes a week after two rifles were reported stolen from Maguguni Patrol Base in a mysterious armoury break-in on October 29.
According to police reports, a patrol officer noticed the armoury’s padlock had been broken and the steel box opened.
The missing items included one AK-47 rifle with two loaded magazines, one G3 rifle with a loaded magazine, two empty magazines, and 96 rounds of ammunition.
Authorities launched an immediate search for the stolen firearms and have linked the recent incident in Munyu to the ongoing investigation.
Police continue to investigate both cases and have warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
