NAIROBI, Kenya – Detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have arrested a woman in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on suspicion of providing support to a terrorist organisation.
The suspect, identified as Asho Kassim Hassan, was apprehended during a late-night raid on Major Muriithi Street following an intelligence-led operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to the DCI, officers traced the woman to her hideout after receiving credible intelligence linking her to activities believed to aid a terror network.
During the operation, detectives seized a passport and a mobile phone, which have been handed over to forensic analysts to help establish whether she is part of a wider syndicate.
DCI said the suspect is currently in custody and is undergoing processing ahead of her expected arraignment.
In a statement, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to national security, attributing the arrest to strengthened collaboration between security units and the public.
“Through intensified intelligence operations, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and sustained community partnerships, the DCI remains steadfast in safeguarding the country and ensuring that every Kenyan can go about their daily lives without fear,” the statement read.
