ISIOLO, Kenya — Two people were killed and three others injured on Thursday evening after armed bandits ambushed a lorry transporting livestock from Samburu County to Isiolo, authorities have confirmed.
The attack occurred at around 5:30pm in Wamba Sub-County, as traders and residents from both Isiolo and Samburu counties were engaged in their routine Thursday market activities.
According to officials, the lorry was ferrying livestock from Lolkuniyiani Market, located between Sapashe and Lerata in Samburu County, when it came under gunfire from unknown assailants along the Samburu–Isiolo route.
The attackers opened fire on the vehicle, killing two occupants on the spot and leaving three others nursing gunshot wounds.
The assailants then fled the scene with 12 head of cattle, raising fresh concerns over insecurity along key livestock trading corridors in northern Kenya.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo condemned the attack, calling on security agencies from both counties to move swiftly and decisively to track down the perpetrators.
He urged the Samburu County security team, working closely with national security agencies, to fast-track investigations, pursue those responsible and restore safety along the affected transport routes and market areas.
Governor Guyo also conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery, saying the Isiolo County Government stood in solidarity with the affected families during the difficult period.
