ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The Ministry of Defence (UAE) announced that the country’s air defense systems successfully intercepted multiple ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones launched toward the UAE during what it described as an Iranian attack.
In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said air defenses intercepted nine ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles, and 148 drones in the latest wave.
Cumulative Interception Figures
According to the ministry, since the beginning of the attack, 174 ballistic missiles have been detected heading toward the country. Of these, 161 were destroyed while 13 fell into the sea.
A total of 689 Iranian drones were detected, with 645 intercepted. The remaining 44 landed within UAE territory.
Additionally, eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed, though authorities reported some collateral damage resulting from the interceptions.
Casualties and Damage
The incidents resulted in three fatalities and 68 minor injuries, the ministry confirmed. It described the property damage as minor to moderate, affecting a number of civilian buildings.
Officials said the loud sounds heard across various parts of the country were caused by air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles and fighter jets neutralizing drones and cruise missiles.
Ongoing Security Response
The ministry affirmed that air defense operations remain active and that the situation is being continuously monitored.
Authorities have not provided further operational details but emphasized that national defense systems remain on high alert to protect civilians and infrastructure.
The developments come amid heightened regional tensions, with the UAE confirming that it continues to assess threats and respond accordingly to safeguard national security.
