NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya marked its 61st Jamhuri Day in unforgettable style as legendary “old skool” artists lit up Uhuru Gardens on Thursday with electrifying performances that had the audience, including President William Ruto, on their feet.

The celebration, commemorating Kenya’s transformation into a republic on December 12, 1963, drew thousands of Kenyans to the iconic venue.

Amid heightened security, the event blended patriotic pride with vibrant nostalgia as some of the country’s most beloved artists took the stage.

Seasoned genge stars including Jua Cali, Mejja, DNA, Madtraxx, and P-Unit brought the crowd alive with their timeless hits.

The nostalgia-driven lineup also featured Kleptomaniax’s Collo, Jaguar, Esther Wahome, Daddy Owen, and Mr. Lenny, who performed back-to-back classics, evoking memories of Kenya’s golden music era.

DNA’s “Banjuka” moment proved to be the highlight of the day.

As the familiar beat dropped, President Ruto joined the dance floor, showcasing his moves and sparking cheers.

Gambian President Adama Barrow, attending as a guest, joined in, drawing applause and laughter as the two leaders swayed to the music.

The performances were met with roars of approval from an enthusiastic crowd.

Fans, young and old, couldn’t resist rising to their feet to dance along, as hit after hit filled the air.

Even dignitaries were seen letting loose, momentarily swept up in the electric atmosphere.

The entertainment segment, carefully tailored for the occasion, served as both a tribute to Kenya’s independence and a vibrant showcase of national talent.
