NAIROBI, Kenya – Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has disclosed plans to rename a road in South C after the late Kenyan artist E-Sir.
Governor Sakaja remarked during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
“We will honour our artists by renaming roads after them. For example, one road in South C will be renamed after the great hero, E-Sir,” said Governor Sakaja.
One of the notable musicians who performed during the celebrations was E-Sir’s brother, Habib, who entertained guests with some of the late E-Sir’s hit songs.
Who was E-Sir
E-Sir was a prominent Kenyan hip-hop artist known for his impressive lyrical skills and success in music.
Born and raised in Nairobi’s South C estate, E-Sir tragically passed away in a car accident at the age of 21 on March 16, 2003, while returning from a performance.
He has left a lasting legacy in Kenyan music, and his songs continue to be celebrated.
Meanwhile, the county boss further said that against this backdrop, he had engaged the countyassembly in renaming some of the roads.
“Nairobi is now attracting many artists both locally and internationally. One of the areas we have also seen improvement is social media and entertainment apps,” added Governor Sakaja.
How Sakaja praised Ruto
Governor Sakaja hailed President William Ruto for leading from the front in creating jobs for Kenyan youths.
“Mr President, you have engaged YouTube and TikTok; you have gone to Hollywood; you have gone to the US to engage these people, and our young people can now monetise their talents,” explained Governor Sakaja.
As a county government, Governor Sakaja reiterated that they continue to allow young people to produce their content in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
“We have seen exponential growth in this area, and I want to invite most of us to visit the CBD on weekends. You will see hundreds of young people creating content for Telegram, TikTok, and Instagram and earning from it,” he said.
