The units, part of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), are nearing completion and set for allocation starting November 21, 2024.
“These units mark a critical milestone in our efforts to provide decent and affordable housing for Kenyans. Today, we unveil projects comprising studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units,” read the department’s notice.
The programme offers three housing categories: Social Housing Units, Affordable Housing Units, and Affordable Middle-Class Housing Units, tailored to cater to diverse income groups.
Social Housing Units are aimed at individuals earning less than Sh20,000 per month. Prices start at Sh640,000 for studio units (20 sqm), with a monthly repayment option of Sh3,900.
One-bedroom units (30 sqm) are priced at Sh960,000, while two-bedroom units (40 sqm) sell for Sh1,280,000.
Affordable Housing Units are designed for individuals earning between Sh20,000 and Sh149,000 per month.
Prices range from Sh1,000,000 for a studio unit (20 sqm) with a monthly repayment of Sh7,250, to Sh3,200,000 for a two-bedroom studio-cum-shop unit (64 sqm).
Affordable Middle-Class Units target Kenyans earning above Sh149,000 per month.
Prices start at Sh2,400,000 for two-bedroom units (40 sqm) and go up to Sh5,400,000 for three-bedroom units (90 sqm).
Kiambu County leads with the highest allocation of 1,027 units, followed by Nakuru with 440 units and Nyandarua with 326 units.
Other notable allocations include Machakos (294 units), Embu (248 units), and counties like Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, and Vihiga, each with 220 units.
Smaller allocations were made to Kirinyaga, Homabay, and Migori, which have 110 and 60 units respectively.
To ease access, the government is offering flexible repayment plans alongside Deposit Assistance, a financial support scheme to help buyers cover the initial deposit.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader commitment to empowering low and middle-income earners.
Under the “One ID, One Housing Unit” principle, all Kenyans are eligible to purchase a home, ensuring equitable access across the board.
This latest development is part of President William Ruto’s administration’s pledge to construct 200,000 housing units annually.
