China Vice President Han Zheng Arrives in Nairobi for Four-Day Official Visit

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Han Zheng arrived in Nairobi on Sunday for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation between Kenya and China.

Musalia Mudavadi led senior government officials in receiving the Chinese Vice President at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, alongside China’s envoy to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, and Kenya’s Ambassador to China, Willy Bett.

Mudavadi said the visit underscores the long-standing diplomatic and economic partnership between Nairobi and Beijing, as well as their shared commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation.

“His visit underscores the strong and enduring relations between Kenya and China, and our shared commitment to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation,” Mudavadi said.

During the visit, Han is expected to hold high-level talks with Kenyan leaders focusing on trade, investment, and infrastructure development. Officials said the discussions will also aim to reinforce the Kenya–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore new economic opportunities.

China remains one of Kenya’s largest trading partners and a major financier of infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, ports, and energy developments.

Beijing-backed projects such as highways, power transmission lines, and transport networks have played a central role in Kenya’s infrastructure expansion over the past decade.

Analysts say the visit comes at a time when Kenya is seeking additional financing for priority development projects while also working to rebalance trade flows and boost exports to China.
