Margaret Kiogora Appointed CEO of President’s Award-Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The President’s Award-Kenya (PA-K) has announced Margaret Kiogora as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2024.

Kiogora, who will be stepping into the role following the retirement of Nellie Munala, brings a wealth of experience from her tenure as Acting CEO of the National Youth Council (NYC), where she led significant initiatives for youth engagement and socio-economic development.

Kiogora’s appointment comes as PA-K renews its focus on fostering achievements outside formal academics for youth aged 14 to 24.

The organization, which has been integral to youth development in Kenya since 1966, is part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a program celebrated globally for its impact on youth empowerment.

In her previous role at the NYC, a state agency under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Kiogora championed several high-profile initiatives, including the Youth Connekt Africa Summit held in Nairobi in December 2023.

The summit attracted over 20,000 delegates from 40 countries, marking a milestone in youth-led regional collaboration.

Throughout her leadership at NYC, Kiogora advanced the organization’s mission by launching NYC’s Strategic Plan in April 2024 and overseeing successful International Youth Week celebrations for two consecutive years.

She also spearheaded youth development frameworks under the Kenya Youth Development Policies (KYD), reaching 27 counties with tailored, comprehensive strategies.

Kiogora’s grassroots outreach efforts, such as the “kikao” (discussion) sessions for International Youth Day in 2024, resonated with over 1,000 young people in regions including Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Isiolo, and Murang’a.

These interactive sessions allowed youth to express concerns, share aspirations, and engage directly in policy discussions affecting their future.

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and an MBA with a specialization in Human Resources from the United States International University—Africa, Kiogora brings a robust academic foundation to her leadership role at PA-K.

Her expertise in strategic partnerships and youth empowerment is expected to drive PA-K’s mission forward.

As PA-K’s new CEO, Kiogora aims to expand the reach and impact of its programs, ensuring young Kenyans receive recognition for their achievements beyond the classroom and fostering a new generation of leaders empowered to make a difference in their communities.
