Moses Kuria Heckled at Murang’a Funeral For Attacking Ex-DP Gachagua

Date:

MURANG’A, Kenya – A burial ceremony in Murang’a on Saturday, November 23, turned chaotic when Moses Kuria, Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, faced an irate crowd.

Kuria, who was attending the funeral of Mark Gicheru, a recently deceased Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Wangu Kiharu, was forced to cut short his speech as mourners erupted in heckles and boos.

In a video circulating on social media, tensions escalated rapidly during the service, prompting the presiding priest to lead the congregation in a hymn in an attempt to restore order.

However, the protest against Kuria persisted, forcing him to leave the podium mid-speech.

The hostility didn’t end there. A representative of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, tasked with reading a condolence message on his behalf, was similarly heckled off the stage.

Under pressure, the clergy advised the representative to hand over the speech to the family instead.

Kuria had been an outspoken critic of Gachagua, accusing him of perpetuating a divisive narrative that isolated the Mt. Kenya region from the rest of the country.

“Mt. Kenya is populous but cannot succeed independently without collaborating with other regions, especially given its reliance on trade,” Kuria argued in previous statements.

Despite his removal from office, Gachagua has recently adopted a combative stance against the government.

On November 20, he alleged harassment by security agents in unmarked cars, likening it to tactics from the Moi era.
