DCI Refutes Claims of Targeting Ex-DP Gachagua, Calls Out Media for ‘Misleading Reporting’

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday rejected allegations that it interfered with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s religious engagements, refuting media claims of overreach and interference.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin emphasized that the agency operates within legal boundaries and does not meddle in the affairs of other institutions, especially religious ones.

“This assertion is entirely false and appears to distort the actions and intentions of the DCI,” Amin said, responding to allegations that DCI had obstructed Gachagua’s participation at a recent church service in Kahawa West. “The DCI strictly abides by the rule of law and remains committed to non-interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions.”

The statement comes after an article published over the weekend alleged that DCI had refused to provide a comment on the issue.

DCI dismissed this claim, stating that a response was promptly provided, reiterating their stance of neutrality towards religious entities.

The agency criticized the publication, urging it to uphold journalism standards by verifying facts and balancing perspectives, especially on sensitive matters impacting reputations.

“This is particularly important when reporting on issues that can affect the reputation of individuals and the integrity of institutions,” the statement noted.

Gachagua, a vocal critic of the DCI in the past, attended Sunday’s church service alongside allies, sparking further controversy amid ongoing investigations into his close associates.
