Nairobi, Kenya – A sombre mood engulfed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday evening as the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who lost his life while serving in Haiti, was repatriated.
Corporal Nzuve, deployed under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), died in a road traffic accident on September 1. His casket, draped in the national flag, was received by fellow officers led by the Commandant of the National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, Isaac Alimaa.
The fallen officer’s family, including his mother, Serah Nzuve, attended the solemn ceremony, which was marked by prayers and military honors.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) extended its condolences, saying: “We stand with the family, friends, and colleagues of Corporal Nzuve during this period of profound sorrow. The NPS assures them of unwavering support as they navigate this painful loss.”
After the reception, the body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary, where it will be preserved as burial arrangements continue. The funeral date is expected to be announced soon.
Corporal Nzuve’s death underscores the risks Kenyan officers face while serving in international peace and security missions. His colleagues described him as a disciplined officer whose dedication to service extended beyond national borders.
One officer who spoke at JKIA remarked, “He was not just a colleague but a brother. His sacrifice is a reminder of the cost of duty and the courage required in global peacekeeping.”
As preparations for his final journey begin, Kenya remembers Corporal Nzuve not only as a fallen officer but also as a symbol of service and sacrifice in the pursuit of global peace.
