NAIROBI, Kenya – After the Milimani Law Courts issued a warrant of arrest for Francis Gaitho, the embattled blogger has launched a blistering critique of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). In a public letter dated January 2, 2025, Gaitho lambasted the DCI for what he termed “bureaucratic malfeasance” and an egregious mishandling of their responsibilities.
Addressing the DCI as “Exalted Guardians of Ineptitude,” Gaitho’s letter ridicules the agency’s record on high-profile cases, including the escape of the infamous “Kware Killer” from Gigiri Police Station and delays in apprehending suspects in the Monica Kimani murder case.

He also criticized the DCI’s handling of the Shakahola cult investigation, accusing them of sluggishness and inefficiency.
Gaitho did not hold back in addressing police brutality during protests, accusing the DCI of turning a blind eye and enabling systemic violence.
“Your silence and inaction speak volumes, suggesting camaraderie among officers that supersedes the pursuit of justice,” he wrote.
The blogger also accused the agency of routinely spreading misinformation in high-profile cases, branding their actions as a mockery of law enforcement principles.
He referenced instances where suspects were paraded publicly, only for charges to later collapse.
Gaitho called on President William Ruto to consider disbanding the DCI entirely, describing it as an “anachronistic institution” that squanders taxpayer resources.
“Your failure to perform your duties…is not merely incompetence but a squandering of public trust and resources,” he wrote, suggesting the agency should be replaced with something “less akin to a Keystone Cops reenactment.”
Gaitho’s letter has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with some lauding his boldness and others questioning the wisdom of openly antagonizing law enforcement.
Critics have pointed out that the letter might complicate his legal troubles, as he is already facing charges of publishing false information and defamation.
The DCI has not officially responded to Gaitho’s letter, but law enforcement sources indicate that efforts to apprehend the blogger are ongoing.
Gaitho had earlier announced plans to surrender to the DCI headquarters on January 7, accompanied by his lawyers.
