NAIROBI, Kenya—Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) resumed flight operations on Thursday, 25, July afternoon after closing for the day to avoid unsettled weather.
In a statement, national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) disclosed that it had resumed flight operations diverted Thursday morning due to poor visibility caused by severe weather conditions in Nairobi.
Y News has established that some arriving and departing flights were delayed during this period.
“Further to our earlier update on diversions of our flights due to severe weather conditions (fog) that impacted visibility, we wish to inform our customers that the fog has significantly reduced, and visibility has improved. As a result, all the diverted flights have landed safely at JKIA,” the statement reads.
Why KQ apologised to its esteemed customers
KQ, in a statement from its Corporate Communications seen by Y News, regretted that the adverse weather conditions may have inconvenienced its customers’ travel, even as it moved to apologize for the inconvenience.
“Please rest assured, we are working diligently to resume normal operations as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Your safety and the well-being of our crew are our top priorities, and we are committed to ensuring this,” KQ added.
Should any of KQ’s customers need further assistance, the airline urged them to contact its Customers Excellence Team through their toll numbers.
Where were the affected KQ flights diverted to
Earlier, KQ informed its customers that some of its flights scheduled to land at JKIA had diverted to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro.
“This is due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions. As a result, we expect delays in departures and arrivals in Nairobi,” the airline said.
In a related story, Y News reported that Ethiopian Airlines had received a notice from the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority indicating the suspension of all Ethiopian Airlines flights to Eritrea.
In a statement posted on Ethiopian Airlines’ official X account, the airline said it received the communication through a letter dated July 21, 2024.
The suspension is set to take effect on September 30, 2024.
