NAIROBI, Kenya- Ndindi Nyoro has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging that he had been arrested, terming the reports false and misleading.
The Kiharu MP broke his silence after a viral post shared widely on Facebook claimed that he had been arrested amid rising political tensions.
The post, which began circulating on Thursday, March 12, alleged that the legislator had been detained and linked the alleged arrest to political disagreements with William Ruto.
Viral Video Sparks Online Debate
The claims were accompanied by a video clip purportedly showing the lawmaker being arrested by individuals appearing to be police officers.
The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, triggering widespread debate and concern among users who questioned whether the reports were accurate.
However, Nyoro later clarified that the information circulating online was inaccurate.
According to the legislator, the video being used to support the claims dates back to 2019 and had been shared out of context to create a misleading narrative.
Nyoro Assures Supporters
The Kiharu MP reassured his supporters that he was safe and continuing with his normal activities.
Nyoro revealed that he was scheduled to preside over the launch of three laboratories at Karemaini Secondary School as part of development projects in his constituency.
“We’ll be launching triple laboratories at Karemaini Secondary School in the morning. We have no idea of the motive of the inaccurately circulating information; the video is from 2019. I’m fine and well. Thank you, everyone, for your concern,” Nyoro wrote.
Tensions Amid Political Criticism
The viral claims come at a time when Nyoro has recently been vocal in his criticism of policies by the government led by President William Ruto.
In recent remarks, the legislator questioned the administration’s fiscal approach and economic management.
Just days earlier, Nyoro had expressed opposition to the proposed National Infrastructure Fund, arguing that the initiative could potentially increase public borrowing rather than promote sustainable development projects.
The MP has maintained that economic reforms should prioritise fiscal discipline and responsible management of public resources.
