President Ruto, Leaders Mourn Death of Kimani Ichung’wah’s Father at 105

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the death of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, father to Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

Mzee Ngugi passed away on Thursday morning, September 4, at his Kikuyu home in Kiambu County, aged 105.

In a heartfelt tribute, President Ruto described Ngugi as an industrious businessman and one of the pioneering figures behind the growth of Kikuyu Town.

He hailed him as a man who touched countless lives through transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable, noting that his legacy would live on.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. Rest in Peace, Mzee,” the Head of State wrote.

Ngugi’s passing was first confirmed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who praised him as a patriarch whose 105 years were marked by impact and resilience.

“As we celebrate a life well lived, we pray that his lasting impact will continue to be felt and his legacy cherished for generations to come,” Wetang’ula said, urging comfort for the family during their time of grief.

Other leaders quickly joined in expressing their condolences. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said his prayers were with Ichung’wah and his family, describing the MP as a “dear friend.”

Ichung’wah’s Central Role in Government

Ichung’wah, who has risen to become one of President Ruto’s closest allies, now faces a deeply personal loss even as he remains at the heart of government policy-making in Parliament.

His leadership as Majority Leader has been crucial in driving the administration’s legislative agenda — a role that underscores the weight of support he is receiving from colleagues across the political divide.

A Life Well Lived

Mzee Ngugi leaves behind a remarkable legacy spanning more than a century — a legacy of hard work, entrepreneurship, and community service that helped shape Kikuyu Town and uplifted many lives.

For family, friends, and Kenyans at large, his passing is not just the loss of a father and elder, but the end of a historic chapter.
