NAIROBI, Kenya- In the midst of nationwide demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024, Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto, has spoken out, urging the youth to voice their concerns respectfully and constructively.
On June 25, Charlene Ruto issued a statement acknowledging the frustrations of young Kenyans regarding the current state of affairs.
Several people were killed and hundreds injured during the protests.
She praised the youth for their active engagement in civic matters, emphasizing the importance of raising concerns in a manner that is informed and respectful.
“As a youth champion, I hear the cry of this generation and give my kudos that we not only care about current affairs but have a stand and are willing to raise our concerns,” Charlene stated.
“This is a game-changer. Let’s do it consistently, in an informed manner, with respect and honor. That is how we will be heard. May we dwell in unity, peace, and liberty. A way will be made.” She added.
A Unique Perspective
Charlene highlighted her unique vantage point as the president’s daughter, expressing her confidence in her father’s dedication to the well-being of Kenyans.
She recounted her father’s long political journey and his deep-seated passion for the country’s progress.
“As a president’s daughter, I have no doubt in my mind, watching my father rise in politics for over 30 years, seeing his work and passion behind the scenes, that he truthfully holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart,” she said.
Mixed Reactions and Calls for Action
Charlene’s remarks came amid heated protests in major towns and cities, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Eldoret, where youths are demonstrating against the Finance Bill 2024.
The bill has sparked widespread discontent due to its perceived economic burdens on the populace.
However, her comments have elicited mixed reactions online. While some netizens appreciate her call for respectful discourse, others urge her to leverage her influence to engage her father directly on the public’s concerns.
Critics argue that her defense of President Ruto should be accompanied by concrete actions and dialogue aimed at addressing the economic strains exacerbated by the Finance Bill.
