Opening Ceremony of Global Peace Leadership Conference Cancelled After Deadly Protests in Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The opening ceremony of the Global Peace Leadership Conference has been cancelled.

Kenya’s President William Ruto was scheduled to open the conference that was to be hosted at the Radisson Blu hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

This after the bloody protests across Kenya over the controversial Financial Bill 2024, that led to the killing of more than 5 people and injuries of hundreds according to authorities.

The forum was set to explore and discuss ways to promote peace, development and cooperation.

“In light of the events over the last two days in Kenya, the loss of lives and the casualties of the protests at the Parliament on June 25, 2024, we have decided to cancel the opening ceremony,” reads an alert issued by the organizers.
