NAIROBI, Kenya – A former employee of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly presenting a forged university degree in a bid to secure a promotion.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said it arrested Lukaa Musamali Mukimi on 19 November 2025 following investigations into claims that he submitted a falsified Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies (Public Administration) certificate purportedly issued by Moi University.
According to the anti-graft agency, inquiries confirmed that the certificate was fake and that Mukimi knowingly used it as genuine to advance his career within the electoral commission.

After completing investigations, the EACC forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who approved criminal charges against the suspect.
Mukimi was arraigned on 20 November before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where he faced three counts: forgery, uttering a false document, and deceiving a principal under the Penal Code and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
He denied all charges and was released on a KSh200,000 cash bail or an alternative KSh500,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on 4 December 2025 before Senior Principal Magistrate Okore.
The EACC said the prosecution reflects its continued efforts to combat fraud and enforce integrity standards in public institutions.
