Gachagua Hits At Ruto Government Over Abductions: “You Are Running Out of Lies”

Date:

EMBU, Kenya – In an address during a funeral in Mbeere North, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized the administration of President William Ruto for its handling of ongoing abductions and kidnappings in Kenya.

Gachagua accused the government of evasion and dishonesty, challenging it to take responsibility for the plight of missing youths.

Speaking at the funeral of Eric Muchangi Kivuti, son of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Gachagua expressed frustration over what he described as a campaign of misinformation.

“You are running out of lies,” he said, addressing the government directly.

He rebuked National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who had suggested Gachagua was involved in orchestrating abductions, dismissing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“The people of Kenya are very intelligent. You have lied until you now believe in your own lies,” Gachagua stated to a cheering crowd.

The former DP further criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration’s policies, alleging they were grounded in falsehoods and ineffective.

He described his ousting from Ruto’s government as a consequence of his refusal to condone deceit, citing failed projects like the State Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Gachagua also called on leaders and the church to unite against abductions, urging them to hold the government accountable without fear of retaliation.

He stressed the need for the return of missing individuals, either alive or deceased, so their families could find closure.

“The church is the conscience of the nation,” Gachagua said. “At a time like this, when everybody has been silenced, it is only the church that can speak for us.”

Leaders present at the funeral joined Gachagua in demanding government action.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi emphasized the state’s responsibility to investigate the abductions and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Bus Party Leader Kiraitu Murungi and Runyenjes MP Muchangi Karemba called on the government to restore hope by tackling the abduction crisis.

“The increased abduction cases are alarming and causing unnecessary fear in the country,” Karemba said.

Murungi urged the church to advocate for Kenyans’ rights, especially during a time of widespread fear.

“The church must be at the forefront of fighting for justice,” he said.
