NAIROBI, Kenya – In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, hosted a delegation from the Haitian Police at the National Police Service (NPS) Headquarters in Nairobi on the morning of June 18, 2024.
In a statement on the official X handle of the National Police Service, the meeting focused on the upcoming NPS-led Multilateral Security Support Mission to Haiti, marking a significant step in international cooperation.
“We are counting on your support,” stated Joachim Prohete, a senior Haitian Police official, emphasizing the importance of Kenya’s assistance in bolstering Haiti’s security framework.
The Haitian delegation discussed various aspects of the mission with IG Koome, seeking to leverage Kenya’s expertise and resources.
IG Koome assured the Haitian delegation of Kenya’s full commitment to the mission.
“NPS remains committed to collaboration in the mission, for the good of the people of Haiti, especially women and children,” he affirmed, highlighting the humanitarian aspect of the security support.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Douglas Kanja of the Kenya Police Service and DIG Noor Gabow of the Administration Police Service, who is leading the NPS efforts on the Haiti mission.
Their presence underscored the high level of commitment and coordination within the Kenyan police forces.
Currently, the Haitian Police team is engaged in further meetings with other NPS commanders to finalize the details of the collaborative efforts.
Following the discussions, the Haitian Police team is scheduled to meet with other NPS commanders to finalize operational details.
This series of meetings aims to ensure a cohesive and effective strategy for the upcoming mission.
