Ayieko had been missing since October 18, and his vehicle was later found abandoned at a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga County, with the dash cam intentionally disabled.
The IHRM Executive Director, Quresha Abdullahi, urged law enforcement to expedite investigations into the brutal killing.
“In light of this tragedy, we are confident that law enforcement agencies will conduct swift and thorough investigations to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay,” she stated.
Ayieko’s death has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s HR community, with Abdullahi describing him as an exemplary professional who embodied the values of integrity and dedication.
“Ayieko was a distinguished member of our profession whose career exemplified excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to professional standards,” she said. “His untimely death represents not only a personal tragedy but also a significant loss to the HR profession in Kenya.”
Abdullahi further urged organizations across various sectors to reassess and strengthen security protocols for HR professionals, who often face unique risks due to the nature of their work.
“We must honor his memory by strengthening our resolve to advance the HR profession while ensuring the safety and well-being of our members,” she added, calling for a united effort to prevent similar tragedies.
The IHRM expressed support for Ayieko’s family and colleagues at Wells Fargo, offering condolences as they prepare to lay him to rest.
Abdullahi also appealed to the wider HR community to champion efforts aimed at enhancing workplace safety and supporting those in high-risk roles.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is currently investigating Ayieko’s final days to uncover the circumstances leading up to his death.
While motives remain unclear, police are examining evidence linked to his abandoned vehicle, where the dash cam was reportedly turned off, likely in an attempt to obscure identities.
