NAIROBI, Kenya — Kalonzo Musyoka has called on authorities to move with speed and establish the circumstances that led to the helicopter crash that killed Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno and five others in Nandi County.
In a statement, Kalonzo urged the government to extend full support to the bereaved families and ensure transparency in the investigation.
“In this moment of national grief, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Emurua Dikirr MP Hon Johana Ngeno and the five families who have lost someone they love. No words can ease such pain, but know that you carry the prayers and solidarity of an entire nation on your shoulders,” he said.
“To the six departed souls, may God, in His infinite mercy, grant you eternal rest. And to those who mourn, may He give you peace that surpasses all understanding.”
UDA Mourns “Fearless Voice”
Ng’eno’s party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), described him as a steadfast legislator and courageous defender of public interest.
In a statement signed by Secretary General Hassan Omar, the party said Ng’eno distinguished himself as a fearless voice for his constituents.
“Ng’eno distinguished himself as a fearless voice for his constituents and a committed servant of the people, consistently championing the aspirations of ordinary citizens with conviction and sincerity,” Omar said.
“Kenya has lost a dedicated patriot, a steadfast legislator, and a courageous defender of public interest whose leadership was defined by humility, integrity, and an unwavering sense of purpose.”
Speaker Confirms Death
The death of the MP was formally communicated to the National Assembly of Kenya by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
“It is with profound sorrow that I notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely and tragic demise of the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, the late Hon. Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon, CBS, MP,” Wetang’ula said. “May their souls rest in eternal peace.”
The helicopter crashed in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, at around 4:45 pm. Reports indicate the aircraft attempted an emergency landing before bursting into flames.

Call for Accountability
Kalonzo’s remarks add to growing calls for a thorough probe by aviation authorities. Under Kenya’s Civil Aviation Act and international safety standards, accident investigations aim to determine the cause and prevent recurrence.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has already initiated procedures to support investigations by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department.
As the nation mourns, leaders across the political divide are urging unity, transparency, and swift answers over the tragic crash that claimed six lives.
