Ministry of Defence Announces Public Auction of Vehicles, Equipment Across Five Regions

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ministry of Defence has announced a public auction of vehicles, equipment, and general stores to be conducted across five regions between March and April 2026.

In a public notice issued Tuesday, February 24, the Ministry said the auction will take place at KNB Mtongwe (Mombasa Region), 43 OCC (Nanyuki Region), DEFOD Kahawa (Nairobi Region), OCC Lanet (Nakuru Region), and 63 OCC Modika (Garissa Region).

Interested bidders may view the listed items from March 9 to March 26, 2026, on working days between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the respective locations.

The Ministry requires bidders to pay a refundable bid number deposit of Sh50,000 for vehicles and Sh30,000 for equipment and stores. The deposits must be paid in cash to the Ministry before the final day of viewing.

“Each bid number will only be allowed to bid for one lot. Original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and bid number deposits will be presented at the entrance for one to be allowed to participate in the auction,” the notice stated.

The auction schedule is as follows: March 31, 2026, at 63 OCC Garissa; April 8 at KNB Mtongwe; April 14 at 43 OCC Nanyuki; April 21 at 23 OCC Nakuru; and April 28 at DEFOD Kahawa. All auctions will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Successful bidders must pay 25pc of the bid price at the fall of the hammer and clear the balance within fourteen days. Unsuccessful bidders will receive refunds upon presentation of original receipts.

The Ministry directed that successful bidders collect their items within thirty days of full payment. Failure to do so will attract storage charges at a rate of 1pc of the bid offer per day, capped at three months. Items not collected within that period will be forfeited along with any monies paid.

Additionally, purchasers of vehicles must repaint them in non-military colour schemes before use and remove EX-Military number plates. Successful bidders must also obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority before collecting items from the sale yards.

The public auction forms part of routine government asset disposal processes, which aim to enhance accountability and ensure proper management of state property.
