Stay Safe: List of Areas Hard Hit By Floods Within Nairobi Metropolitan

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Severe flooding has disrupted movement across several estates and major roads in Nairobi as emergency response teams intensify search and rescue operations following heavy rainfall.

According to emergency updates from the Kenya Red Cross Society, multiple residential areas across the capital have been affected, with some roads rendered impassable as floodwaters cut off access routes and inundated neighbourhoods.

Among the hardest-hit areas are Pipeline and Embakasi, where sections of Kware Road have been completely cut off by rising water levels.

Flooding has also been reported in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Mukuru Reuben and Viwandani, as well as Kibra, Mathare, Huruma, Baba Dogo, and Bosnia estates.

Other neighbourhoods experiencing flooding include South B and South C, Nairobi West and Lang’ata, as well as Umoja 3, Choka, Njiru, Ruai, and Utawala.

Parts of Roysambu, particularly along Kamiti Road, have also been affected alongside Kahawa West, Githurai, Loresho, and sections of Westlands.

The floods have also disrupted movement along several major roads within the city.

In the central business district, sections around Museum Hill, Uhuru Park, and Uhuru Highway have experienced significant flooding, affecting traffic flow on feeder roads and surrounding streets.

Along Mombasa Road, flooding has been reported near South C, Bellevue, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport exit, and Kyumbi junction.

Traffic disruptions have also been reported on the Thika Superhighway around Githurai, Kahawa Sukari, and Kenyatta Road.

Other affected roads include Lunga Lunga Road near the Kenya Power depot, Limuru Road near the Belgian Embassy, and sections of Jogoo Road, where some parts have become impassable.

Enterprise Road, Lang’ata Road near T-Mall, Riverside Drive, Kawangware at Amboseli, Kamukunji, and Kabete areas have also experienced flooding, further complicating transport across the city.

Emergency teams have been deployed to affected locations to assist residents and motorists trapped by the floodwaters.

Authorities say search and rescue operations are ongoing across several routes to reach people stranded in flooded areas.

Residents have been urged to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads and to move to safer areas where necessary as the rains continue.

For emergencies, the public has been asked to contact the Kenya Red Cross Emergency Operations Centre through the hotline 1199 or 0728 602502.

Authorities say continuous monitoring is underway as the heavy rains persist, with emergency responders remaining on standby to assist affected communities across the capital.
