Bruz Newton Reveals Painful Church Experience During Faith Return

Gospel musician and media personality Bruz Newton has spoken candidly about what he describes as judgment and exclusion within church spaces, opening up about how his attempt at a spiritual comeback was met with skepticism rather than support.

In a recent emotional reflection shared on social media, Bruz revealed that he made a deliberate decision at the start of 2025 to reconnect with his faith, a journey he describes as sincere and deeply personal.

“2025 niliamua kurudi back to God… nikaanza fasting ya mwezi mzima nikijua saa hii nitafanya everything right,” he said, explaining that he committed himself to a month-long fast as part of that return.

However, instead of finding refuge, Bruz says he encountered judgment—both online and within church circles—where his intentions were questioned.

“Nakumbuka hata kwa comments watu walikuwa wanaandika, ‘tuko hapa kuangalia kama unatuseti ama umeamua kweli kurudi church,’” he recalled, noting that people openly doubted whether his faith journey was genuine or merely performative.

Bruz lamented that such attitudes reflect a deeper problem within modern Christianity, where outward appearances and reputations sometimes take precedence over grace.

“Unashindwa church ni akina nani, because the same people who hurt you bado wanakuangalia na ile macho ya ‘aka kanapitia mpaka anakaa,’” he said.

“It’s those people who look like they have seen God… they dress the part, sit close to the pastor.”

According to Bruz, the church once represented a place of safety and emotional release for him.

“Church was my escape. You could go to a corner, cry, and tell God exactly how you feel,” he said, contrasting that experience with the scrutiny he says he now encounters.

Bruz was careful to clarify that his remarks were not meant to attack the church as an institution.

Instead, he framed them as a call for introspection among believers, urging Christians to reflect on how their words and actions affect those seeking restoration.

Bruz Newton is a Kenyan gospel musician, content creator, and former radio personality who rose to prominence through his bold, contemporary approach to gospel music and faith-based discussions.

He is known for blending music, media, and social commentary, often addressing real-life struggles such as faith, relationships, and personal growth.

His career has not been without controversy, with moments of public criticism and scrutiny often playing out online.

Bruz has previously acknowledged the challenges of being a public figure within the gospel space, where expectations of moral perfection are high, and mistakes are rarely forgiven.
