1,932 Candidates Score Grade A in The 2025 KCSE Examinations

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — A total of 1,932 candidates scored grade A in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the figures on Friday while handing over the results to President William Ruto ahead of their official release.

Ogamba said 270,000 candidates attained grade C+ and above, making them eligible for direct university admission.

He said 993,000 candidates sat the national examinations. Girls accounted for 50pc of the candidature.

The ministry also reported strong performance from public day secondary schools.

According to Ogamba, 72,000 candidates from day schools scored grade C+ and above. He said the results reflect steady improvement in learning outcomes within public day institutions.

The KCSE examinations were administered nationwide between October 21 and November 14, 2025.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has completed marking and processing of the results. The ministry said candidates will access their results shortly after the official announcement.

More details on subject performance and school rankings will be released later by the Ministry of Education.

Some parents had raised concerns over what they viewed as delays in releasing the results. Ogamba dismissed the concerns.

He said the ministry has consistently released KCSE results in January and confirmed that this year’s timeline remains unchanged.

Ogamba also announced a key policy shift on certificate issuance.

Candidates will now collect their KCSE certificates from subcounty education offices instead of their former schools.

The ministry said the change aims to end delays caused by unpaid school fees, which have previously led to certificates being withheld.

Officials said the new system will ensure faster access to certificates and protect candidates’ academic progression.

The release of the 2025 KCSE results is expected to guide university placement and post-secondary training decisions in the coming weeks.
