Abel Mutua Robbed at Knifepoint in Kahawa West

NAIROBI, Kenya-Kenyan filmmaker and storyteller Abel Mutua is counting his blessings after surviving a frightening robbery in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

Mutua, popularly known as “Mkurugenzi,” revealed through his Instagram Stories that he was ambushed by a group of young men who made away with his iPhone 16 Pro Max and Bose headphones.

In his post, Abel narrated the incident with his signature mix of humor and realism, saying he was grateful to have escaped with his life despite the attackers being armed with knives.

“Wueh! Sema Kimeumana!! The young men at Kahawa West walinikaribisha jiji jana. iPhone 16 Pro Max gone, Bose Headphones gone as well. But cha muhimu ni despite the massive knives they were carrying, walinibakishia uhai,” he wrote.

He went on to describe the irony of where the robbery occurred — right across from the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) Morgue — joking that things could have ended tragically.

“Ironically, they jumped me right across from the KUTRRH Morgue. Wangeamua ningeamkia kwa fridge leo. Wabarikiwe for sparing a life,” he added, ending the post with laughter emojis.

Abel concluded his statement by saying he would be taking some time off to rest, humorously writing, “Haya! Mtaniruhusu nilale mteja siku kadhaa.”

One fan commented, “Pole sana Mkurugenzi. We thank God you’re safe,” while another wrote, “The gadgets can be replaced, but your life is priceless.”
