BARINGO, Kenya – A bandit attack on a convoy traveling from Tangulbei to Marigat in Baringo County left one woman dead and three others seriously injured early Monday morning.
The attack took place at the Moinonin area, located at the Baringo North sub-county border, when an unknown number of armed bandits ambushed the convoy, despite the vehicles being escorted by police.
According to Loruk Police Station OCS, Edward Serem, the woman was killed on the spot as the bandits opened fire on the convoy.
“We can confirm that one woman was shot dead during the attack, and three others sustained serious injuries,” said OCS Serem. “The situation is under control, and police officers have arrived at the scene to assess the damage and continue with investigations.”
The convoy was heading to Marigat from Tangulbei when the bandits struck, but despite police presence, the attack resulted in a tragic loss.
The identity of the woman who lost her life has not been released, and the condition of the injured victims is still unclear.
This incident comes a week after another violent attack, where two people were killed along the same highway at Loberer area.
Authorities have vowed to intensify security measures to curb the growing insecurity that has plagued parts of Baringo County.
Residents and local leaders have expressed growing concern over the rise in banditry in the region, urging for stronger government intervention to protect civilians and restore peace.
