Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has suspended all transplant services at Mediheal Group of Hospitals, specifically halting kidney transplant procedures, following concerns about the facility’s adherence to ethical standards in its transplant practices.
This decision comes amid mounting public and governmental concern over alleged unethical practices at the hospital.
However, details of these ethical concerns remain unclear, and the suspension’s duration is yet to be determined.
The inquiry aims to investigate the growing allegations of unethical kidney transplant procedures at Mediheal, with particular focus on illegal organ trade and transplant tourism.
The Kenya Renal Association (KRA) has raised serious concerns, citing possible coercion, lack of informed consent, and financial inducements involved in kidney donations—actions that breach both Kenyan law and international medical ethics.
In light of the ongoing investigations, President William Ruto suspended Dr. Swarup Mishra, the founder of Mediheal Hospital and the chairperson of the Kenya BioVax Institute.
The suspension will remain in effect until the investigations into the alleged illegal kidney transplant activities are concluded.
The DCI and relevant authorities remain focused on uncovering the truth behind the allegations, with a commitment to ensuring justice for both the victims and those responsible for the crimes.
