NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Police Service (KPS) has recognised Dr. Eunice Namonywe Emusugut, Ph.D., for her exemplary contributions to mental health, highlighting her dual role in national security and academic mentorship.
Serving as Chief Inspector and Lead Psychologist for the KPS, Dr. Emusugut was awarded the 2024 Head of State Commendation (HSC) for her dedication to both service members and the wider community.
She is a licensed counselling psychologist and an Associate Supervisor at the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association.
Dr. Emusugut also lectures at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and Amref International University, mentoring students in counselling and psychology while balancing her high-level responsibilities in law enforcement.
She holds a Ph.D., a Master’s, and a Bachelor’s in Counselling Psychology, and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Mental Health from Amref. Her work integrates mental health awareness with practical interventions for police officers and students alike.
In her own words: “Your mental health is a priority. Your happiness is essential. Your self-care is a necessity.” Dr. Emusugut emphasises that mental health encompasses total emotional, physical, and social well-being, not merely the absence of pain.

Her recognition underscores the growing importance of psychological support within security institutions and academia, bridging national service with community mental health advocacy.
