EMBU, Kenya – Faith Muchira from Embu has been named the twelfth grand prize winner in Safaricom’s ongoing Shangwe @ 25 customer promotion, walking away with Sh1 million during a draw event held in Embu town.
The nationwide promotion forms a key part of Safaricom’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, marking a quarter-century since the telecommunications company began operations in Kenya.
According to Safaricom, the initiative is aimed at appreciating customers for their loyalty over the years.

Speaking during the event in Embu town, Safaricom’s Head of Commercial Operations, Martin Chere, congratulated Muchira on her win, noting that the promotion reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to its customers.
“The Shangwe @ 25 promotion is our way of saying thank you to the millions of customers who have walked with us throughout our 25-year journey,” Chere said.
He added that the anniversary milestone is not only a celebration of Safaricom’s past achievements but also a reflection of its future ambitions to continue connecting and empowering Kenyans.
“As we celebrate 25 years, we are looking ahead to how we can continue transforming lives and communities through meaningful connections,” he added.

Chere further revealed that the reward goes beyond the individual winner, with Safaricom committing an additional Sh250,000 to support a community project selected by the winner.
“In addition to the Sh1 million, Safaricom will award Sh250,000 towards a community project of the winner’s choice, ensuring the impact of this promotion extends beyond one person,” he said.
He encouraged customers to continue participating in the promotion by earning points through everyday transactions such as M-Pesa payments, noting that there are many prizes still up for grabs beyond the weekly Sh1 million draws.

Faith Muchira becomes the third grand prize winner from the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking after receiving the news, the young businesswoman expressed joy and disbelief, saying the win came as a complete surprise after purchasing data bundles via M-Pesa.
“I never imagined that a simple data purchase would change my life like this. It still feels unreal,” Muchira said.
She revealed plans to invest the money in expanding her farming business, with a focus on creating employment opportunities within her community.
“This win will help me grow my farming enterprise and employ more people from my area. I want the benefits to go beyond just me,” she added.
The event attracted a large crowd of residents, many of whom expressed excitement and optimism about their chances of winning as the Shangwe @ 25 promotion continues across the country.
