End Femicide KE Joins National Forums to Push Survivor-Centred Policies

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The End Femicide KE Movement has ramped up grassroots mobilization across Kenya as public participation forums on gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide take place in all 47 counties.

The forums, which began on May 12, are spearheaded by the Technical Working Group on GBV and Femicide, appointed by President William Ruto.

They aim to collect citizen input into future policy, legal, and institutional responses to the growing crisis of femicide in the country.

End Femicide KE, a national coalition of over 1,000 survivors, feminists, activists and civil society organisations, has actively participated in the forums.

The group says it is working to ensure the perspectives of women and girls — particularly those historically excluded from national discourse — are central in shaping reforms.

“This is not just a consultation. It’s a chance to take responsibility as a rights holder to co-create feminist solutions that centre survivors,” said Rachael Mwikali, National Coordinator of the movement.

End Femicide KE has been rallying civic engagement at the county level and emphasising the inclusion of grassroots voices.

Mercy Jepkurui, a county coordinator and Member of County Assembly, described the forums as a “historic opportunity to put every woman’s life and voice at the centre of policymaking.”

The movement’s advocacy builds on a landmark memorandum submitted in March 2025 — a document representing voices from all counties, calling for decisive action to end femicide.

Among their demands are policy reforms, the establishment of a national femicide observatory, and systemic shifts in how the government addresses gendered violence.

End Femicide KE says it will continue its participation in the forums this week and is calling on Kenyans to “show up, speak out, and stand with survivors.”

The movement is a national coalition advocating for survivor-centred justice and community-driven action to end femicide and GBV in Kenya.
