Equity Bank Customers Hit by Disruption in Bank-to-Mobile Transfers

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Equity Bank Kenya has announced a temporary disruption in its bank-to-mobile wallet transfer service, leaving thousands of customers unable to move money between their accounts and mobile platforms.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 25, the lender said a system interruption had affected transactions from Equity accounts to mobile money services such as M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and T-Kash.

“We are experiencing a service interruption affecting bank-to-mobile wallet transactions. Kindly bear with us as the technical team works to restore the services,” the bank said.

The lender assured customers that efforts were underway to restore normal operations “within the shortest time possible” and apologised for the inconvenience.

“We apologise for the inconvenience,” Equity stated, adding that it would notify customers once services resume.

The disruption comes at a time when millions of Kenyans rely on mobile money platforms for day-to-day payments, bills, and business transactions.

Equity is one of the country’s largest banks by customer base and handles a significant volume of mobile-linked transfers daily.

Amid the outage, the bank also cautioned customers against falling prey to fraudsters who might exploit the situation by impersonating bank officials.

“Please remember, Equity calls you from only one number — 0763 000 000. Do not engage with anyone asking for your personal banking details. Equity will never ask for your bank details, PIN, password, OTP, or card information on phone or SMS,” the lender warned.

The bank urged customers to remain patient as technicians work to resolve the issue and promised to update users once normal services resume.
