NYERI, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revived his political engagements at his Wamunyoro residence amid reports of President William Ruto’s growing interest in consolidating influence in the Mount Kenya region.
The former DP hosted representatives from the Kenyan diaspora, signaling a renewed push to position himself as a critical voice in shaping the nation’s socio-political and economic trajectory.
Gachagua took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to highlight the discussions.
“Earlier today at our Wamunyoro residence, I had a fruitful engagement with representatives from the diaspora. I thanked them for their continued patriotism to our beloved nation and their support to loved ones under economic pressure due to bad leadership and poor policies,” he posted.
He revealed that the discussions touched on pressing issues, including the collapse of healthcare, contentious education reforms, political intolerance, and human rights abuses such as extrajudicial killings, abductions, and forced disappearances.
Economic challenges, particularly the tough business environment and ineffective investment policies, also took center stage.
“We agreed to keep engaging on diverse issues and strongly agitate for change and practical reforms,” Gachagua said.
He was accompanied by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, and Embakasi Central MP Mejja Donk.

Over the past few months, Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence has become a hive of political activity.
Leaders, opinion shapers, and professionals from the Mount Kenya region and beyond have flocked to the former DP’s home to exchange views on the country’s future.
In previous statements, Gachagua emphasized that these meetings are aimed at gathering insights and crafting actionable solutions for Kenya’s pressing problems.
Gachagua’s increased visibility comes at a time when President Ruto is reportedly eyeing a stronger foothold in the Mount Kenya region, raising speculation about a potential clash of influence.
The former DP’s focus on grassroots mobilization and his criticism of the current administration’s policies signal a calculated effort to reclaim political ground ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As he continues to host politicians, church leaders, and community representatives, Gachagua’s activities underscore his ambition to remain a significant player in Kenya’s political landscape.
His strategy appears to hinge on building a coalition of like-minded leaders and fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the region.
