Safaricom’s Spark Accelerator Gears Up for Phase Two After Investor Pitch Event

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya’s startup scene just got a major boost.

After a successful first phase of the Safaricom Spark Accelerator Programme, which saw nine startups pitch their game-changing solutions to investors, Safaricom has announced the launch of Phase Two, inviting early-stage startups to apply between April 1 and May 15, 2025.

The accelerator, launched in 2024 as a collaborative initiative with M-PESA Africa and Sumitomo Corporation, is designed to equip startups with training, product development support, market access, and capital connections.

And if the first cohort’s journey is anything to go by, this next round promises to be just as transformative.

Demo Day: The Final Test for the First Cohort

On March 21, 2025, nine startups took the stage during the Investor Demo Day, a high-stakes pitch session where they showcased their progress, innovations, and go-to-market strategies to top investors.

Over the past year, these startups have received hands-on mentorship and technical guidance through the accelerator, and Demo Day was their moment to prove they’re ready to scale.

“At Safaricom, we believe technology is a catalyst for change and solutions, and that’s why we incentivize and support innovative startups with the tools they need to reach the next level,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

“With the Spark Accelerator Programme, we’re not just investing in startups—we’re investing in future industry leaders while driving economic growth and societal change.”

The inaugural cohort, selected in May 2024, featured nine startups across key industries, each chosen for their potential to disrupt and redefine their respective sectors.

Health X Africa and BlackRhino VR led the charge in digital content and the creative economy, while Twiva, Chpter, Churpy, and Faidi HR focused on boosting SME productivity.

Embedded finance was represented by Chumz and Nobuk Africa, while VunaPay stood out in the future fintech category.

These startups benefited from strategic mentorship, business development insights, and direct investor engagement, with Demo Day serving as the ultimate test of their readiness to attract capital and scale operations.

With Phase Two of the Spark Accelerator Programme officially open for applications, Safaricom is doubling down on its commitment to fueling Kenya’s startup ecosystem.

The next cohort will gain access to specialized training, market linkages, and investment opportunities, further cementing Kenya’s reputation as a leading tech hub.
