NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney has made a return to the media industry, taking up a new role as Growth Strategy Consultant at Cape Media Limited — the parent company of TV47, Radio47, and TV47 Digital.
In her new capacity, Karoney will spearhead policy development and strategic transformation aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of Cape Media’s brands in Kenya’s fast-evolving media landscape.
Karoney brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held senior positions in some of the country’s top media houses.
Before her tenure in government, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director at Royal Media Services (RMS), where she is credited with driving several pioneering initiatives that cemented RMS’s market dominance.
Her extensive media career also includes stints at the Kenya Television Network (KTN), Nation Media Group, and international broadcaster Al Jazeera.
Speaking after her appointment, Karoney emphasized the importance of building a resilient media brand while diversifying revenue streams in a dynamic industry.
“I’m excited to help shape the next phase of Cape Media’s growth. This is a fast-rising media house with immense potential,” she said.
Cape Media Chairperson Simon Gicharu welcomed Karoney’s appointment, describing it as a strategic move to sustain the momentum the company has built across its TV, radio, and digital platforms.
Karoney is remembered for her public service between 2018 and 2022 when she served as Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During her time in office, she led the rollout of the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS), commonly known as Ardhisasa — a digital platform designed to streamline land transactions, curb fraud, and boost transparency and revenue collection.
After leaving the Cabinet, Karoney kept a relatively low profile until August 2024, when President William Ruto appointed her Chairperson of the National Lottery Board.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Botany and Zoology) from Kenyatta University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication, an MBA in Strategic Management, and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy) — all from the University of Nairobi.
Her return to media comes at a time when TV47 and its sister stations are aggressively expanding their reach and influence among younger, digitally connected audiences across Kenya.
