NAIROBI, Kenya — Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged young graduates to uphold integrity, justice, and peace as they transition from students to leaders, calling on them to reject tribalism and lead with courage in building a united Kenya.
Speaking on Friday evening at the 2024/2025 Kenyatta Trust Graduation Dinner in Nairobi, the former Head of State said true leadership begins with humility and moral conviction.
“Go out into the world with humility and lead. Lead with integrity. Lead with a commitment to justice, lead always with peace in your hearts,” Kenyatta told the graduating scholars.
Accompanied by former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, the former president urged the 41 graduates to “always do right, even when the right thing isn’t popular,” echoing the event’s theme, “From Learners to Leaders.”
Kenyatta, who serves as patron of the Kenyatta Trust, reflected on the organization’s mission to foster a generation of leaders who identify as Kenyans first — beyond tribal or regional lines.
“We wanted to nurture individuals who do not identify with a tribe or a region, but as part of a great nation,” he said. “The building of a great nation begins with the ability to see one another as equals in purpose and hope.”

The Kenyatta Trust, founded in 2010, supports bright and deserving young Kenyans through education and mentorship.
It also runs initiatives such as Janjaruka camps, the Inuka economic empowerment program, and the Tuungane mentorship program, all aimed at cultivating service-oriented leadership.
During the event, Director Nyokabi Kenyatta emphasized the Trust’s holistic approach to empowerment, saying transformation must touch “every aspect of a person’s life — their mind, heart, family, community, and sense of service.”
Another Director, Kirigo Ndegwa, lauded the achievements of the scholars, revealing that over 68% of Kenyatta Trust graduates are now gainfully employed.
“It’s not by chance,” Ndegwa said. “Kenyatta Trust scholars are built differently — resilient, responsible, and truly remarkable.”
The evening was marked by moments of reflection and celebration as families, guardians, and alumni gathered to honor the graduates’ accomplishments and the Trust’s 15-year journey of transforming learners into leaders.
