MANDERA, Kenya –The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a conviction against a police officer attached to Mandera Border Police Post for grievous harm and assault.

Abdihakim Abdi Saman was found guilty by the Mandera Magistrates Court of unlawfully inflicting grievous harm on Dahaba Noor Hillow and assaulting Ali Abdirahman Maalim on 11 May 2024, while at Mandera Police Station.

The case, investigated by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), saw the prosecution present 12 witnesses whose accounts firmly placed Saman at the scene.

The defence called six witnesses but failed to dislodge the evidence against him.

In the ruling delivered on 20 February 2026, the court concluded that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, dismissing the accused’s alibi defence as unsubstantiated.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 26, 2026.
