NAIROBI, Kenya — Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei has urged Kenyans to scrutinise the character, honesty and record of political candidates before voting in the 2027 General Election, warning against electing leaders he described as thieves and liars.
Kosgei said voters should look beyond political popularity and carefully assess whether candidates can be trusted with public resources and responsibilities.
Speaking on Sunday, September 6, 2026, he urged Kenyans to make deliberate choices when selecting leaders for the next electoral cycle.
“Make sure that we choose leaders whom we know are not thieves, who have not stolen anything belonging to anyone, who are not liars, those who tell the truth, and those who take care of people’s property,” Kosgei said.
Kosgei urges voters to examine candidates
The Head of Public Service said the choices made at the ballot could have significant consequences for the country’s future.
He warned voters against repeating what he considers mistakes made during previous elections, arguing that electing unsuitable leaders can undermine the country’s progress.
“It is very important because sometimes we go for elections and we mess ourselves up by electing wrong people,” he said.
Kosgei encouraged voters to examine the background and conduct of candidates before deciding who deserves their support.
His remarks come as political parties and prospective candidates increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.
‘Think again’ before voting
Kosgei said Kenyans should consider whether candidates possess the qualities needed to lead the country and manage public resources responsibly.
He called for voters to reflect carefully before casting their ballots rather than making decisions based solely on political alliances or personalities.
“Let us think, think again, and think again so that we can get the right people who can drive this country forward,” Kosgei said.
He also urged Kenyans to prioritise leaders whose decisions would benefit the wider public rather than politicians motivated primarily by personal interests.
2027 election draws closer
Kenya’s next General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 10, 2027, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that presidential and parliamentary elections be held on the second Tuesday of August every fifth year.
The election is expected to feature intense competition as political parties seek to consolidate their support bases and potential presidential candidates position themselves ahead of the campaign period.
Political realignments have already begun, with leaders across the political divide engaging in discussions over alliances, coalitions and possible presidential bids.
