NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has mourned the death of Dr David Silverstein, the long-serving personal physician to former President Daniel arap Moi.
In a condolence message on Sunday, Ruto described Silverstein as a distinguished medical professional whose work contributed significantly to the development of modern medicine in Kenya.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the medical fraternity following the passing of Dr David Silverstein, long-serving personal physician to the late President Daniel arap Moi,” Ruto said.
The President said Silverstein’s contribution to medicine, particularly cardiology, improved the lives of many people and helped shape medical practice in the country.
“Dr Silverstein leaves behind a distinguished legacy of service to our nation. His pioneering contribution to the advancement of medicine, particularly cardiology, touched countless lives and helped shape the practice of modern medicine in Kenya,” he said.
Silverstein served as Moi’s personal physician during and after his presidency. Moi governed Kenya from 1978 until his retirement in 2002 and died in February 2020.
Ruto said his thoughts and prayers were with Silverstein’s relatives and friends as they mourned his death.
“At this moment of sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. May they draw strength from the remarkable life he lived and the enduring legacy he leaves behind,” he said.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
